Whitney Art Party

whitney art party

Last night we attended the Whitney Art Party at the Highline Stages in the Meatpacking District. The open space made it a great place to not only check out the art, but, also, the amazing outfits and accessories of all the guests. One attendee was Amar’e Stoudemire, power forward for the Knicks. Our favorite piece, featured above, is Chris Wyllie’s Remnant of Kingdom. The Whitney Party, themed “Groundbreakers,” was not only celebrating their annual party, but also the plans for their new building in the Meatpacking District opening to the public in 2015.

Lynda Benglis

Everyone should go see Lynda Benglis' exhibition at the New Museum (235 Bowery Street) before it closes on June 19th. Benglis became known in the art world in the 1960s and 1970s when her fragile installations made out of latex, foam, and glitter generated lots of buzz. The current exhibition at the New Museum is her first retrospective in New York and her first in twenty years. Above, an image of "Phantom" (1971), a glow-in-the-dark piece that takes neon to an entirely new level. We've got rings; the New Museum has the art. It's time to embrace neon. Alexander McQueen

The Alexander McQueen exhibition, "Savage Beauty," at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is not to be missed. The pieces are more than fashion; they are art. His designs represent romance, heroic women, and Gothicism to a fascinating degree. His runway shows always elicited strong emotions, and the exhibition does the same. His philosophy? He explained it this way: "I want to empower women. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress." Everything Is Coming Up Roses

Flowers are blossoming all over New York! We particularly love Will Ryman's gorgeous fiberglass roses, which stand tall on Park Avenue from 57th to 67th Streets. Make sure you see the outdoor exhibition before it comes down in May. Flowers are blossoming at Spring Street too. Check out some of our favorite spring buds in the Fashion Lounge
